Ajanta S. Vinekar,
M.D is Board Certified in Adult and Geriatric Psychiatry.
She has been in practice since
1989,starting her career at UMDNJ-RobertWood Johnson
Medical School in the Department of Psychiatry.
Dr. Vinekar has recently been elected a Distinguished
Fellow in the American Psychiatric Association for her dedication to the work
of the psychiatric profession.
She is Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of
Psychiatry, UMDNJ-RWJMS and has been active in teaching medical students. She has
an appointment to the active staff in the department of Psychiatry at Penn
Medicine Princeton Health in Plainsboro NJ.
In the clinical arena she has focused her interest in
Geriatric Psychiatry. She has provided geropsychiatric
consultations since 1993 and is Board Certified in Adult and Geriatric
Psychiatry. She has done In services for staff and provided pharmacological and
non pharmacological treatment options in dealing with the behavioral manifestations
of Alzheimer’s disease. She specializes in the management of Bipolar Mood
Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Schizophrenia and Organic Mood Disorders in the
Elderly.
She provides gero-psychiatric
consultations at Nursing Homes, and has an office based practice as well where
she does geropsychiatric evaluations. Dr. Vinekar
also specializes in College mental health. Her practice combines
psychopharmacological interventions with individual psychotherapy. Dr. Vinekar
individualizes the treatment plan to fit each patient’s needs, combining medication
with counseling.
She was President of the Central Chapter of the NJPA from
June 2002 to June 2003.
Dr. Vinekar was the past Chair of the Geriatric Committee
of the New Jersey Psychiatric Association, and continues to serve on the
legislative advocacy council of NJPA.
